The American Quarter Horse Journal, March 29, 2010 – Think you know “Simon Says?” How smooth is your horse’s gait? Are you and your equine partner fast on your feet -- whether it’s two, four or a combined six? Are you ready to play and have fun? If so, you’ll want to participate in the line-up of playday games set to take place at QuarterFest on Friday, April 30, and Saturday, May 1, in the grass-covered arena on the grounds of the Miller Coliseum in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

QuarterFest is a three-day, education-packed celebration of the American Quarter Horse, where horse enthusiasts from around the world will gather for fun, entertainment and festivities to honor the world’s most versatile horse – the American Quarter Horse.

Be sure to look for the upcoming schedule for times and events but expect each playday session to last around an hour and a half to two hours. Participants will be separated into age groups, with each group having its own competition and prize packages. Everyone is invited to play, compete and have fun!

The final slate of games and activities will be determined by AQHA staff and will depend on the weather and ground conditions. The tentative schedule of games and activities includes:

  • Horseback “Simon Says”
  • Diaper Race
  • Ride-A-Buck
  • Pony Express Race
  • Cowboy Jousting
  • Boot Scramble
  • Ribbon Race
  • Egg and Spoon Horsemanship
  • Sack Race
  • Apple/Carrot Bobbing
  • Carrot and Cracker Race

“Participants will need to bring their equine partner and can expect to have fun,” said Charlie Hemphill, AQHA senior director of shows and new events. “QuarterFest was designed for people who typically do not actively show in AQHA but might enjoy the fun of something competitive. That’s why we added these playday-style games.”

Participants are encouraged to bring their horses and compete in the games. The cost to participate in the playday is only $5 per contestant per session payable at the gate. This entry fee allows you to participate in all the playday games that session. Great prizes will be presented to participants, and special QuarterFest certificates of achievement will be mailed to participants competing on registered American Quarter Horses.

Come to learn. Come to make friends. Come for the entertainment. But most of all come to honor your horse. Details and reserved tickets are available online now at www.aqha.com/QuarterFest.
